Tips & Tricks

Making a Basic Navision Backup

To create a Navision Backup of your database from the tools menu select, backup.  The following window will appear:

Specify how extensive you want to backup to be:

  • Entire Database (includes all companies in database, data common to all companies, and application objects)
  • All Companies (only the companies)
  • Custom (only the selected items)

Enter a Description of your backup – you will see this when you restore the database.

The File Name also includes the Path (location on the disk or network).  Click the assist button to select the path of the file.  If is useful to give the backup a file name that references that backup date – for example CRONUS-050104.fbk

Select OK to start the backup.  If you chose to copy to disk, the system will ask you to insert disk 1, click OK to continue.  While the backup is being made, you will see status indicators.  Select Cancel to stop the backup.  You will receive a message when he backup is completed.  You have now backed up your Navision Database.

Please Note
that larger databases where the backup size is greater than 2GB will create multiple backup files that are numbered (example fin.fbk, fin2.fbk, fin3.fbk).  You need all of the files to properly restore the database.

Spellchecker for Navision

AVF has created “Spellchecker for Navision” which allows you to spell check text in any field. This tool is particularly useful when creating internal and external reports from Navision, since even a small spelling error can reduce your credibility and distract your audience.

 Use Spellchecker for Navision for:

·        Detailed sales invoices

·        Management reports

·        Custom documents for clients

·        Extended text on sales and purchase documents

·        Large custom comment fields or any text field

To check your spelling, simply click the red checkmark at the bottom of the comment field or next to the text field.  A dialogue box will appear showing all of the spellings in question, and by clicking the arrow at the far right of each word, you can view a suggestion list of correctly spelled words.  It’s that easy!

Spellchecker for Navision works for versions 3.60 and up with a starting price of $495.  AVF can apply Spellchecker to any text field or fields where you want the ability to spell check your work.

Additional requirements:  Must have Microsoft Word and Microsoft Windows XP.
