Need AVF Helpdesk Support?
Get it Faster by Being Prepared. 
 

When you contact AVF with support questions, we understand you want solutions to your problems as quickly as possible.  In order to get your questions answered fast, AVF asks you to first take a moment and gather all the pertinent information we might need so we can jump right in. 

When making a customer support call or filling out a Helpdesk ticket, the following guidelines will help you organize your thoughts and ensure you include all the details of your problem. 

  1. Describe the procedure you were trying to accomplish when the error occurred
    • What was the exact error message?
    • What module (Financial, Sales, ect.) were you working in?
    • What window were you using?
    • What were you doing when you got the message? What version of Navision are you  using?

  2. What steps have you tried so far to resolve the situation?

  3. Have you been able to complete the task before?  If so, what is different since the last time you completed the task?

  4. Does the problem occur from any other workstation or with another user?

  5. Do you have similar problems in other modules as well?

  6. Do you have any third-party products (applications developed by another vendor) loaded?

  7. Are you able to recreate the problem?

  8. Do you have a backup system in place?  Can a backup be restored?

Remember, AVF's online Helpdesk is a great resource for getting the customer support you need from AVF.  Simply log on to www.avfconsulting.com/HelpDesk, and use the helpdesk ticket form to submit your issue electronically.  Helpdesk users can check their company's ticket history for similar problems and they can attach documents or screen shots to further clarify the issue for our customer service team.  More information and instructions about how to use the helpdesk can be found here

Tip or Trick

Item Substitution

Many companies enjoy having the flexibility of offering products of similar quality and function as substitutes for one another.  This is why Navision offers item substitution capabilities.  In Navision, item substitution can be one-way (from item x to z, but not from z to x) or two-way. Once substitution information is set up, it will be displayed in the Substitution field on the right plane of the sales order.  If the quantity requested of an item exceeds what's available from inventory, the program will automatically display a check mark in the Substitutes Exist field in the stockout message box. 

To set up an item substitution, start in the Sales & Marketing menu, click Inventory & Pricing → Items. Choose the item you would like to create a substitution for.

In the Item Card window, click Item → Substitutions

The fields in the Item Substitution window allows you to specify information about the substitution item(s).  You can enter the item number for the substitute item into Substitute No. field.

Since item substitutions can be made with items in your inventory as well as nonstock items, you will want to specify this in the Substitute Type field.  The interchangeability of these items is defined in the Interchangeable field. 

Entering conditions required to make a substitution can be done when the user clicks on Condition to open the Condition window.  From here a condition can be entered and will automatically insert a check in the Condition field of the Item Substitution Entry window.

When the substitution is successfully created, the program will indicate this by inserting a check mark in the Substitution Available field on the sales line for the item.
