LS Retail User, Make Up Store, Named Chain Store of the Year in Sweden

March 16, 2009 - Last week, Make Up Store was selected as the Chain Store of the Year in Sweden by Svensk Handel, the leading organization of retailers in Sweden. In the 12 years since the first store was opened, the number of stores has grown to around 160 in 22 countries worldwide. A vital part of the business concept at Make Up Store is not only to sell make-up and other cosmetics, but also to inform and educate the customers about the products and how to use them.

Here is the Jury’s reasoning for handing the prize to Make up Store: A unique concept with high-quality products at affordable prices, well educated sales personell, attractive stores and a smart packaging design have made Make up Store a fast grower, also outside of the Swedish border.
 
Around 100 Make Up Store franchises around the world are interconnected through the Dynamics NAV/LS Retail solution that has made the supply chain of the company much more effective. Together, the solutions offer a central overview at the headquarters in Stockholm and a flexible tool out in the stores all over the world.
 
The cosmetics chain is growing at an astonishing rate. This has created new challenges and demands, and the premises considering the growth in different markets are totally changed. There are different laws and different cultures.
 
”We needed an effective tool to manage our supply-chain in an effective manner. Therefore, we looked for a total solution that would give us the means to control things centrally yet at the same time would be flexible to use in the stores in the different kinds of business environment around the world. What we needed was a solution that could be used all the way for the chain, from the supplier through the stock and POS to the customer,” says the CFO of Make Up Stores, Kerstin Karphed.
 
With the combination of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and LS Retail NAV, both leading systems in their respective fields, the result is a total solution which includes the strengths of a business management system and the qualities LS Retail NAV offers with respect to store and POS management.
 
The POS returns information about the inventory situation automatically as an item is sold, which in turn creates an order suggestion. This gives the perfect balance between stock situation, with all the investment risks involved, and the danger of running out of stocks out in the stores.

So far, Microsoft Dynamics NAV/LS Retail has for example been installed in Make Up Stores in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Canada, the USA, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Russia and Lithuania. There are already plans to upgrade to the latest version in order to reap the benefits of all the new features.
 
When a product is sold in Sydney, Australia, the transaction is sent to the head office in Stockholm the very same second it takes place. This real-time flow of information enables the company to adjust the stock level at any given time to ensure a perfect balance, both with regard to investment and total store supplies.
